NIA-R9 Turns-over 14 completed irrigation projects to ZDS farmers

Fourteen (14) completed irrigation projects were turned over to 14 Irrigators Associations within Zamboanga del Sur during a Mass Turn-over Ceremony held at Chandler Suites, Pagadian City on March 29, 2022.

The activity was spearheaded by NIA-9 Zamboanga del Sur Irrigation Management Office (IMO) headed by Engr. Benedicto Isagani O. Pulis Jr. Present during the event are Acting Regional Manager Salome N. Layasan; Local Chief Executives namely Hon. Victor J. Yu, ZDS Provincial Governor, represented by Jeofe Suzon, Provincial Administrator; Hon. Avelino J. Yrauda, Municipal Mayor, Dimataling; Hon. Greg Dayondon, Municipal Mayor, Tabina; and Hon. Celso A. Matias, Municipal Mayor of Bayog, represented by Engr. Ken Yunting, Municipal Engineer; select Brgy. Chairpersons; IA Presidents, other officials and Board of Trustees of the 14 Irrigators Associations; and staff of Zamboanga del Sur IMO.

The following are the 14 completed irrigation systems turned-over to its respective farmer beneficiaries:

1. Dona Josefina Communal Irrigation System (CIS) – located in Brgy Doña Josefina, Tabina, ZDS has a total service area of 30 hectares, to benefit 25 farmer-beneficiaries of Donya Josefina IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 5.15M under CARP CY 2021 fund;

2. Buburay CIS – located in Brgy. Buburay, Dimataling, ZDS has a total service area of 57 hectares and 35 farmer-beneficiaries of Buburay IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 7M under EECIS CY 2021 fund;

3. San Isidro CIS – located in Brgy San Isidro, Bayog, ZDS has a total service area of 65 hectares, to benefit 40 farmer-beneficiaries of Nimalusan IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 12M under CARP CY 202 fund;

4. Manga CIS – located in Brgy Tulawas, Pagadian City has a total service area of 50 hectares, to benefit 25 farmer beneficiaries of Tulawas IA, Inc. with a total project cost of Php 5M under EEECIS CY 2021 fund;

5. Limas CIS – located in Brgy Limas, Tigbao, ZDS has a total service area of 70 hectares, to benefit 45 farmer-beneficiaries of LIMLAC IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 4M under EEECIS CY 2021 fund;

6. Katipunan CIS Ext’n – located in Brgy Magsaysay, Ramon Magsaysay, ZDS has a total service area of 159 hectares, to benefit 98 farmer beneficiaries of Magsaysay-Katipunan IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 8M under EEECIS CY 2021 fund;

7. Boyugan East Small Irrigation Project (SIP) – located in Boyugan East, Kumalarang, ZDS, has a total service area of 50 hectares, to benefit 20 farmer beneficiaries of Boyugan East IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 9.79M under SIP CY 2021 fund;

8. Lourdes SIP – located in Brgy Lourdes, Pagadian City, has a total service area of 49 hectares, to benefit 25 farmer-beneficiaries of Lourdes Pagadian City IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 5M under SIP CY 2022 fund;

9. Ditoray SIP – located in Brgy Ditoray, Pagadian City, has a total service area of 96 hectares, to benefit 33 farmer-beneficiaries of Ditoray IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 7.1M under CY 2021 fund;

10. Dalapan CIS – located in Brgy Dalapan, Guipos, ZDS, has a total service area of 10 hectares, to benefit 24 farmer-beneficiaries of Dalapan-River IA, Inc., with a project cost of Php 11M under CARP CY 2021 fund;

11. San Fernando SIP – located in Brgy San Fernando, Ramon Magsaysay, ZDS, has a total service area of 20 hectares, to benefit 41 farmer-beneficiaries of Tuburan San Fernando IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 5M under SIP CY 2021 fund;

12. Upper Nilo SIP – located in Brgy Upper Nilo, Tigbao, ZDS, has a total service area of 40 hectares, to benefit 20 farmer-beneficiaries of Upper Nilo Takyanan IA, Inc., with a total project cost of 11.5M under SIP CY 2018 & 2019 fund;

13. Dongos SIP – located in Brgy. Dongos, Dinas, ZDS, has a total service area of 120 hectares, to benefit 67 farmer-beneficiaries of Dongos-East Migpulao IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 28M under SIP CY 2018 fund; and

14. Biswangan CIS – located in Brgy. Biswangan, Lakewood, ZDS, has a total service area of 20.16 hectares, to benefit 28 farmer-beneficiaries of Biswangan IA, Inc., with a total project cost of Php 15M under EECIS CY 2014 fund.

The mass turn-over of projects was purposely done in order to present the irrigation systems to the Provincial and Municipal Chief Executives, as well as to complete the documentary requirements needed. However, individual ceremonial turn-over will be held in their respective system areas.

RM Layasan conveyed her appreciation to the local chief executives present and thanked the local government units of their continuous support to the agency and to the Irrigators Associations. She assured the IAs that even though they will be soon devolved to the LGU, NIA will always be there to assist them and is always open for all their concerns. Moreover, she requested the farmer beneficiaries to utilize and take good care of the irrigation systems, being the recipients and end-users of the projects.

On the other hand, the IA Presidents who represented the IA, individually expressed their heart-felt gratitude for granting their long-time desire of having irrigation facilities in their areas. These irrigation facilities will surely increase the rice production, thus increasing the yield of farmers in Zamboanga del Sur.

 

NIA-9 Regional Office celebrate a fun-filled yet meaningful National Women's Month

The females of NIA-9 Regional Office went out of its usual office routine to celebrate Women's Month this year, with the theme "Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran".

The Regional Office has lined up activities not only to serve the female employees of NIA-9 but also the women in the field - the Women Irrigators Associations and its children (photos uploaded in another post).

Part of the celebration was a lecture about Magna Carta of Women and Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) by Atty. Kathering Grace Lumilis, the Legal Officer of NIA-9.

Health and wellness activities were also conducted which include Zumba exercise and swimming. Also, a Musika ng Kakaihan session was held wherein female employees rendered songs related to women empowerment.

This one day celebration was held on March 25, 2022 at Tambulig Spring Resort, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur. It was participated by women leaders Acting Regional Manager Salome N. Layasan, the EOD Manager Maritez I. Soria, and Audit Team Leader Florencefane J. Arellano, together with all the female staff of NIA-9 Regional Office and COA-NIA team.

 

NIA inks MOA with Irrigators Associations for 5 Irrigations Projects for CY 2022

Memoranda of Agreement MOA) between the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and five (5) Irrigators Associations (IAs) were signed on March 18, 2022 at JL Hotel, Pagadian City. The MOA pertains to the construction of 5 irrigation projects in Zamboanga del Sur for CY 2022.

Prior to the MOA signing, a Pre-construction Conference was held in order to briefly explain the project profile to the concerned IAs and local government units. The total area of farmland to be irrigated for these 5 projects is 95 hectares. The following are the projects to be constructed with the respective location and new areas:

1. Carpoc-Lubosan CIP, Lapuyan, ZDS – 30 hectares

2. Lunib SIP, Vicenzo Sagun, ZDS – 20 hectares

3. Linoguayan SIP, Vicenzo Sagun, ZDS – 15 hectares

4. Guinlin SIP, Vicenzo Sagun, ZDS – 20 hectares

5. Lacupayan SIP, Tigbao, ZDS – 10 hectares

Acting Regional Manager Salome N. Layasan during her speech shared her gratitude to the LGU leaders who showed their support to the agency and most especially the farmers. She also dedicated the construction of these projects to the IAs and imparted her request to value and care for for these irrigation facilities once implemented.

 

NIA-R9 engaged in Fire Safety Awareness

March 18, 2022 | In observance of the month of March as the Fire Prevention Month with the Theme: “Sa Pag-Iwas sa Sunog Hindi ka Nag-Iisa”, NIA-R9 invited the Bureau of Fire Protection R9 Pagadian City Central Fire Station headed by Acting City Fire Marshal, SINSP Jasmin S. Tanog to conduct a Fire Safety Awareness Lecture and Fire Drill. The short lecture followed by a fire drill informs and spreads awareness on basic fire safety skills.

Practice fire safety.

Fire safety is an everyday job.
