NIA Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza Engages in Productive Dialogue with Congressman Michael Amatong of ZDN 3rd District

Today, on June 26, 2024, in Dipolog City, Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza of NIA Region 9 conducted a courtesy call with Hon. Adrian Michael A. Amatong, Representative of the 3rd District of Zamboanga del Norte.

The focus of the discussions revolved around the development plans for the 3rd district of Zamboanga del Norte, with a emphasis on irrigation strategies. RM Plaza affirmed NIA Region 9's commitment to proposing and executing feasible projects within the district, aimed at expanding service coverage to benefit a larger number of farmers.

Supporting RM Plaza was the ZDN Regional Sub Office Manager, Engr. Girlie M. Detalla, who discussed on the proposed Communal Irrigation Systems (CIS) intended for the municipalities under the 3rd district.

Congressman Amatong pledged his full support to all NIA programs, recognizing the vital role of irrigation in the growth of his District and, most importantly, in alleviating poverty.

Also present during the meeting are Atty. Katherine Grace C. Lumilis, Legal of NIA Region 9 together with other key personnel of NIA-9 Regional Office and ZDN RSO.

Three Outstanding Region 9 Irrigators' Associations Honored at NIA 61st Anniversary Culmination

Today, June 21, 2024, three Irrigators' Associations from Region 9 were honored as Outstanding Irrigators Associations (IAs) during the National Irrigation Administration's 61st Anniversary celebration, held at the NIA Central Office Covered Court, Diliman, Quezon City.

The Paglambo Paradise IA, Inc. located in Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay was awarded as the Outstanding IA Performer in the National Irrigation System (NIS) category. They received a Project Proposal amounting to 1.3 Million Pesos, a Php 300,000 livelihood program, and a cash incentive of Php 33,000.
The Bulawan-Kulasian-Guiwan IA from Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay, also awarded as Outstanding IA Performer in the Communal Irrigation System (CIS). They received the same reward and incentive as the NIS winner.

The Sta. Cruz Boniao Kaangayan Pugwan (SBKP) Expanded Arc IA, Inc. from Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur was awarded as the Outstanding IA Performer in the CARP-IC category, and they received Php 100,000 cash reward as incentive.

Empowering Farmers Through Digital Training Program

The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in Region IX, under the Department of Agriculture (DA), in collaboration with the Institutional Development Unit of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) R-IX ZAMBASULTA Regional Sub-Office, kicked off a digital training program. This initiative convened fifteen youth farmers and fifteen representatives from Irrigators' Associations, setting a week-long training from June 19 to 26, 2024, to be held at the Barangay Hall of Manicahan in Zamboanga City.

The primary objective of this program is to empower farmers with essential digital skills, enabling them to utilize smartphones for their agricultural activities and to leverage online platforms for marketing and selling their produce. By embracing these modern tools and techniques, farmers are poised to enhance their productivity and boost their income significantly.


The NIA ZAMBASULTA RSO IX in partnership with NIA Zamboanga del Norte RSO conducts a two-day orientation from June 18 to 19, 2024 at the NIA ZRSO Conference Room for the newly hired Enumerators, Irrigation Development Officers and on-the-job trainees. The aim is to be able to impart understanding and information on the principles of agronomy, land & soil classification, and environmental & social assessment to be able to equip personnel prior to work deployment.

The orientation is facilitated by the NIA Zamboanga del Norte RSO personnel represented by Mr. Vincent Caboverde, IDO A and Engr. Efren P. Orica, Jr., Hydrologist, and NIA ZRSO Engineering and Institutional Development Unit Albert A. Bernardo, Engr. Jhassa Anne S. Cambalon, and Marry Joy P. Arquiza.

NIA Region 9 Hosts Successful Contractors Forum with Kadiwa sa NIA

Pagadian City, June 14, 2024 — NIA Zamboanga Peninsula successfully conducted its monthly Contractors Forum for June, held at the NIA-9 Training Center, Balintawak, Pagadian City. The forum brought together 17 contractors from across the region, NIA officials, and Project-in-Charge (PICS) to discuss and address key issues related to ongoing projects.

The event provided a platform for contractors to present their project accomplishments and discuss challenges. Throughout the forum, pressing issues related to ongoing NIA projects were raised and addressed. Topics included project implementation and billing process. NIA officials and contractors engaged in constructive discussions, aiming to find practical solutions and enhance project efficiency. Simultaneously, a "Kadiwa sa NIA" event was held, showcasing the products of various Irrigators Associations. This initiative provided a valuable opportunity for participants to support local producers and help them achieve higher sales. Attendees were able to purchase a variety of agricultural products, contributing to the economic well-being of the IAs.
