Irrigators' Associations raise urgent concerns in TSAG Meeting at Bunguiao

ZAMBOANGA CITY—The NIA ZAMBASULTA Regional Sub-Office (ZRSO) participated in a Turn-out Service Area Group (TSAG) Meeting held in Bunguiao, Zamboanga City on June 25, 2025. Attended by the Board of Trustees and officers of Bunguiao, Compania, and Seguianan Irrigators' Associations, the meeting was also joined by ZRSO Acting Manager Engr. Sandra T. Tero and Institutional personnel Miss Mary Claire M. Acuña.

Areas for improvement highlighted during the meeting included the proposed repair and canalization of a damaged section of the main canal and measures to address the recurring overflow of the mini dam. Addressing these concerns is expected to enhance water distribution and boost crop productivity in the area.
In response, Engr. Tero recommended deploying a backhoe to deepen and widen the mini dam, which is expected to boost its water-holding capacity and prevent flooding. NIA assured the IAs of its ongoing support to ensure sustainable irrigation and improved productivity for local farmers.

NIA ZAMBASULTA joins Citywide Tree Planting for "Arbor Day na Ciudad de Zamboanga"

ZAMBOANGA CITY - In celebration of Philippine Arbor Day, the NIA ZAMBASULTA Regional Sub-Office participated in a citywide tree planting activity dubbed "Arbor Day na Ciudad de Zamboanga." This initiative, led by the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), is part of the city's commitment to environmental protection and public engagement in tree planting, as mandated by City Ordinance No. 281.

The event took place early this morning at Sitio Brea, Barangay Lumayang, with participants gathering at the Biodiversity Monitoring System (BMS) area. Selected NIA personnel joined the activity along with members of the Lumayang Irrigators Association.

Narra trees were planted to contribute to the reforestation efforts and to raise awareness about environmental conservation in Zamboanga City. NIA ZAMBASULTA's participation demonstrates its continued support for local government initiatives that promote ecological sustainability and community involvement.

NIA conducts Courtesy Call with Lamitan City Mayor for Proposed Convergence Projects

LAMITAN CITY, BASILAN — On June 24, 2025, the NIA ZAMBASULTA Regional Sub-Office (ZRSO) conducted a courtesy call with Hon. Roderick H. Furigay, Mayor of Lamitan City, to discuss proposed convergence projects in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Isabela District Engineering Office.

ZRSO Acting Manager Sandra T. Tero, along with Neil B. Rojas, led the visit and were joined by DPWH Isabela Assistant District Engineer Arnold James Unsag and CENRO Head Allan Tura. The discussion focused on collaborative strategies to support infrastructure development and agricultural sustainability in the city.
Mayor Furigay welcomed the initiative, expressing strong support for partnerships that promote inclusive and resilient development. A technical working group will be formed to identify priority areas and formalize the framework for the convergence efforts. The courtesy call marks a proactive step in fostering inter-agency collaboration aligned with national and local development goals.

NIA and IAs sustain support for Monthly Kadiwa ng Pangulo in Dipolog City

DIPOLOG CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE — The National Irrigation Administration (NIA), together with its Irrigators Associations (IAs), continues its active participation in the monthly Kadiwa ng Pangulo held today, June 24, 2025, at the Dipolog City Post Office.

This monthly event serves as a consistent platform for NIA-assisted farmers to showcase and directly sell their produce such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and affordable rice to the community. The June edition of the Kadiwa once again highlighted the strong collaboration between NIA and its farmer-beneficiaries in advancing the government's efforts for food security and sustainable rural livelihood.

By maintaining its presence in this initiative, NIA and its partner IAs provide consumers with access to fresh and affordable agricultural goods while helping local farmers earn better income through direct market opportunities.
