The Public Forum and Mass Right of Way Negotiation for the Leonardo SIP at Brgy. Leonardo, Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur aim to inform the community, discuss concerns, and negotiate land access required for the project's completion, ensuring transparency, community involvement, and respect for local residents' rights and interests.

This activity is spearheaded by the ZDSIMO Acting Division Manager, Engr. Joel G. Janiola, IDS Head, Ann N. Maligro and Personnel from ZDSIMO.
Present during the activity are the Municipal Mayor of Josefina,Hon. Catalino Adapon, Brgy. Captain of Leonardo, Hon. Elmerante Cuarto ,Brgy. Upper Bag-ong Tudela Hon. Nelson Maño, Brgy. Captain of Gumahan, Hon. Refael Pepito, IA President, Jose G. Jolarte, Landowners and Tenants.

Alternate Wetting and Drying Technique – A Solution for Rice Farmers to Mitigate El Niño Phenomenon

March 8, 2024, The National Irrigation Administration ZAMBASULTA RSO’s Institutional Development Unit conducted seminar on Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) technique to rice farmers of Mercedes, Cabaluay, Culianan, Talabaan, Irrigators’ Association Incorporated (MCCT IA, Inc.) headed by IA President Hja. Aida N. Loong, held at Barangay Mercedes.  This technique encouraged rice farmers in applying the water-saving technology as a solution to mitigate the impact of El Niño Phenomenon basically to reduce their irrigation water consumption without decreasing its yield.   

Irrigation Development Officers Jameson Atilano, Jackielyn Manalo, Marry Joy Arquiza and Janica Montejar-Basilio ensured that farmers are equipped with the technique and resilient in mitigating the impact of El Niño.

NIA Equips Field Workers with Motorcycles to Enhance Field Operations

In a strategic move to enhance field operations and project monitoring capabilities, the NIA Zamboanga Peninsula recently conducted a Turnover Ceremony of 20 units Motorcycles (Honda XR 150L) to its Project In Charge (PICs) and Institutional Development Officers (IDOs), held at NIA-9 Covered Court, Balintawak, Pagadian City, on March 8, 2024.

The provision of motorcycles aims to facilitate mobility of field workers, enabling them to efficiently monitor on-going projects and facilitate development of irrigation initiatives across the region. With enhanced transportation capabilities, NIA field implementers can now navigate diverse terrains and reach remote project sites with greater ease and agility.   

NIA celebrates National Women's Month

With the theme, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society”, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) joins the Philippine Commission on Women and the entire nation in celebrating the National Women’s Month this March 2024.

The National Women’s Month Celebration has its roots in the recognition of International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th, a herstorical event stemming from the organizing efforts of women in the early 20th Century. In the Philippines, the celebration is pursuant to Republic Act No. 6949, Series of 1990, declaring March 8 of every year as National Women’s Day.

NIA Top Management Officials, headed by Acting Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen, recognizes the vital contribution of men and women of NIA in securing irrigation development and agricultural growth of the country.

Zambo. Norte IAs benefit from DA's Livestock Program

In a significant stride towards sustainable development, the Department of Agriculture allocated 140 native chickens through their Livestock Program to two (2) Self-Help Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs), namely the NIA Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Zero Hunger  Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Association and the Nipaan Zero Hunger Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Association.

This initiative aims to contribute to the overall goal of reducing poverty and hunger by providing sustainable livelihood agriculture to the community.
