8th Convergence Meeting

Pagadian City (March 26, 2024) – Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza of NIA Zamboanga Peninsula leads the 8th Convergence Meeting at the NIA-9 Regional Office Function Hall, Balintawak, Pagadian City. The meeting aims to synchronize government programs and harmonize efforts among various agencies to uplift the lives of farmers.

Participating agencies include the Department of Agriculture ZAMPEN, DAR Region IX, AFP Western Mindanao Command, PCIC Region 9, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), DPWH Regional Office IX Zamboanga Peninsula, and Philippine Coconut Authority Region IX.

Regional Manager Plaza underscored the meeting's primary objective: to align efforts with the President's agenda of improving farmers' livelihoods and increasing their income. He emphasized NIA's commitment to enhancing development not only for its clients but for the entire region.

Key topics discussed during the meeting include updates on El Niño, Contract Farming, the Campaign Against Premature and Illegal Land Conversion, and proposals for NIA-9's Big Ticket Projects.

NIA confers WWD.PH 2023 Awards to Outstanding IAs

As part of the Culminating Activity of the World Water Day Philippines (WWD.PH) 2023, NIA confers the WWD.PH 2023 Awards to Outstanding Irrigators Associations (IAs) on March 22, 2024 at the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel, SM North EDSA, Quezon City.

Organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), National Water Resources Board (NWRB), and Maynilad Water Services, Inc., WWD.PH Awards is a platform for honoring champions for water and environment that made strides in achieving water and water-environment sustainability in the Philippines.

As an active water partner, NIA sponsored three Most Outstanding IA Awards. The Most Outstanding IA - NIS Category was conferred to Bayaning Magsasaka IA of Kabacan, Cotabato. The Most Outstanding IA - CIS Category was bestowed to Bingon Farmers IA of Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay. Lastly, the Most Outstanding IA - CARP-IC Category was awarded to Triple L IA of Labason, Zamboanga Del Norte.
Bayaning Magsasaka IA Vice President Jeroline S. Ugay, Bingon IA President Dionisio F. Ladra, and Triple L IA President Cipriano D. Lumentac received the trophy.

Orientation of Feasiblity Study and Detailed Engineering

The NIA Zamboanga Peninsula is currently conducting an Orientation on Feasibility Study and Detailed Engineering (FSDE), facilitated by Engr. Herald Chino Perez from the Project Planning Division of NIA Central Office, held at  NIA Region IX - ZamBaSulTa RSO Conference Room, Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City.

 This comprehensive orientation, designed to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of the engineering staff, is being conducted in a hybrid format (face-to-face and virtual platform), involving the active participation of the technical staff from the engineering sections across all NIA Region 9 offices.

NIA - IA Operation & Maintenance Conference

The Zamboanga del Sur IMO in partnership with the Mamidutagui Federation, Inc., conducts the National Irrigation Admintration-Irrigators Association (NIA-IA) Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Conference at Barangay Calolot, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur.

The conference aims to address various topics including the status of carry-over projects from NIA and the progress of projects for the current year, CY 2024. The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) also presented their respective programs and projects, and tackled matters pertaining to land conversion.

Additionally, the federation held its 1st quarter meeting to assess the status of their operations and maintenance activities concerning irrigation structures. The gathering also served as a platform to discuss and resolve any pressing concerns affecting their operations and maintenance efforts.

Kadiwa ng Pangulo

NIA-Zamboanga del Norte RSO joins the Kadiwa ng Pangulo spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture ZAMPEN at the Kadiwa Site, Office of the Provincial Agriculture located at Eco-Park, Brgy. Turno, Dipolog City.

The activity will run for two days from March 21-22, 2024, participated by various agencies including the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and other Non-Government Agencies (NGOs).

Consequently, the Kadiwa ng Pangulo actiivity in Dipolog City will be done monthly in order to address the rising costs of food by allowing farmers to directly bring their agricultural produce to the Kadiwa site and sold at low prices.
