Labangan RIS conducts FISA and RSBSA Caravan

Earlier today, February 28, 2024, the Labangan River Irrigation System (LABRIS) of Zamboanga del Sur Irrigation Management Office (ZDS IMO), NIA Region 9, conducted a caravan on Free Irrigation Service Act (FISA) and Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA), held at the Function Hall of ZDS IMO, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

The beneficiaries of the said caravan are the Irrigators Associations under LABRIS. The activity was facilitated by the Institutional Development Unit (IDU) of the IMO led by Mr. Doroteo J. Tresreyes, Supervising Irrigation Development Officer, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The FISA Caravan aims to inform farmers about FISA and help them obtain certificates of exemption from paying Irrigation Service Fees (ISF). Meanwhile, the RSBSA Caravan focuses on registering farmer beneficiaries in the DA's centralized database, ensuring their priority access to government benefits and assistance programs.

NIA and Local Chief Executives Collaborate to Refine Irrigation Development Plan in ZDN

Four (4) Local Chief Executives (LCEs) from Zamboanga del Norte, namely City Mayor Darel Dexter T. Uy of Dipolog City; Hon. Nilo Florentino Z. Sy of Sindangan; Mayor Lorrymir Adasa  of Mutia; and Mayor Roberto Lim Uy Jr. of Liloy, along with other municipal representatives from 10 Local Government Units (LGUs) participated in the 2nd leg of the National Irrigation Administration - Local Government Unit Irrigation Development Plan (NIA-LGU IDP) Forum  held at Brgy. Disud, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte on February 23, 2024.

Led by Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza, the forum seeks to refine Region 9's irrigation plan by addressing discrepancies in NIA's data regarding potential irrigable areas and identifying the actual irrigation needs of each municipality and city.

Anti Red Tape Authority (ARTA) Visits NIA-R9

The Anti Red Tape Authority (ARTA) Western Mindanao Region representatives visited the National Irrigation Administration IX Regional Office in Balintawak, Pagadian City, on February 21, 2024 to conduct inspection on the Office's Citizen Charter and internal control.

The visit is intended to provide NIA Region 9 with an overview of ARTA's mandates, programs, and initiatives and at the same time present the corresponding findings and the corresponding recommendations of the inspection.

NIA Region 9 conducts Forum with LGUs to Refine Irrigation Development Plan in Zamboanga del Norte

Dapitan City – NIA Zamboanga Peninsula  spearheaded by Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza holds the first leg of National Irrigation Administration – Local Government Unit Irrigation Development Plan (NIA-LGU IDP) Forum in Zamboanga del Norte on February 20, 2024 at Dakak Resort, Dapitan City.

The forum aims to discuss and refine the IDP for each participating municipality/city within Zamboanga del Norte province. By aligning NIA’s IDP with the recorded planted areas or irrigable areas of each LGU, the Agency can accurately identify the irrigation requirements of the province and modify its strategies accordingly.  

This event convened the participation of two (2) Local Chief Executives namely Municipal Mayor Runie O. Jamora of Leon Postigo, and Municipal Mayor Salvador P. Antojado, Jr. of Kalawit, along with representatives from eleven (11) LGUs, comprising Dapitan City and the municipalities of Piñan, Polanco, Mutia, Rizal, Katipunan, Salug, Godod, Siocon, Sirawai, and Sibuco.

NIA-9 Equip its PICs and Design Engineers with Training on Basic Irrigation Design, Construction Methodology, and Management

NIA Region 9 commenced its week-long In-house Training on Basic Irrigation Design, Construction Methodology, and Management from February 19 to 26, 2024 at NIA-9 Training Center, Balintawak Pagadian City.

The training is specifically designed for Project-in-Charge (PICs) and Design Engineers of NIA Region 9, aiming to equip with them the necessary knowledge and skills required for the preparation of technical plans and efficient construction operations. As such, this training is critical for improving the performance of design and project engineers in terms of quality, timeliness, and efficiency.

The training is incorporated with lectures and workshops, allowing the participants to apply and execute their learnings. Through the week-long training program, the participants will be trained on the following topics: Orientation on applicable NIA Standards/Criteria for the preparation of detailed design and plans; Overview on determination of catchment and irrigable areas and canal delineation, Irrigation and drainage network design, and canal profile design; Design of Canal Structures; Construction Management; and Construction Method.
