NIA Region IX – NIA Acting Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen, together with NIA IX Regional Manager Salome N. Layasan, led the inauguration of the new NIA-IX Training Center located at the Regional Center, Balintawak, Pagadian City on April 29, 2023.

The Training Center will serve as a hub for training and education, and venue for activities and events for NIA employees and farmers.  The three-storey facility is composed of function hall, conference rooms, canteen, guest house, and mini-gym. The project has a total project cost of P57.5 million.

Various Irrigators Associations (IAs) and Local Chief Executives in Region XI gathered together on April 27, 2023, for an IA Congress and Stakeholders' Forum held at Dakak Resort, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

The event was organized by NIA Region IX headed by Regional Manager Salome N. Layasan. It aims to address common issues affecting irrigation services and agricultural production of farmers in the region. Moreover, it serves as the perfect avenue for NIA’s clienteles to hear the strategic plans of the Philippine Government, through NIA Administrator, on how to strengthen the value chain of the agri-food system.

The activity was participated by over 255 IAs region-wide and diverse group of stakeholders composed of local chief executives and representatives from the local government units (LGUs), officials from the Department of Agriculture (DA), and community leaders, all of whom share a common goal of promoting sustainable and profitable agriculture.

Earlier today, the Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Federation of Irrigators' Association (ZPRFIA) Inc. conducted its annual general assembly meeting, March 31,2023 at NIA IX Regional Office, Balintawak, Pagadian City wherein among the highlights are the election of the new set of ZPRFIA Officers and Board of Trustees and orientation on the upcoming activities of the National Irrigation Administration which will give the irrigators more access to programs and services of NIA and other national government agencies.

NIA ZAmboanga-Basilan-Sulu-Tawi Tawi Regional Sub-Office (ZAMBASULTA RSO) participated the Quarterly Rice Information Caravan in Zamboanga City held on March 27, 2023 at Ayala Gymnasium hosted by the Department of Agriculture and the Rice Commodity Program.

The Rice Information Caravan aims to increase awareness on the importance of rice production in the area to update farmers with each agencies' current programs and services they can avail to boost rice production.  

The participating agencies tackle their respective expertise such as for Balance Fertilizer Strategy by the Department of Agriculture (DA) - Soil Lab; Pest and Diseases by the DA-Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC), Lending Program by Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC); Crop Insurance by Phil. Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC); Fertilizer Updates by Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA); Marketing by National Food Authority (NFA); and lastly Irrigation by NIA represented by Leni S. Enriquez, Engr. Jhassa Anne S. Cambalon, and Jackielyn T. Manalo.

The NIA-Zamboanga del Norte held a two-day Seminar-Workshop on Solar Power Design, Installation, Maintenance and Troubleshooting on March 23-24, 2023 at NIA Zamboanga del Norte Regional Sub-Office, Gulayon, Dipolog City.

This two-day activity aims to promote knowledge about solar power operation, installation and troubleshooting. The participants are expected to be technologically advanced on the solar irrigation facilities.

The resource speaker was Engr. Jimmy O. Lasaca comes from VICJIAN RENERGY AND CCTV SERVICES located at San Agustin, San Fernando City, Pampanga. The activity was attended by Technical Personnel in NIA Region IX.

The NIA continues to design training, seminars, and workshops to equip the knowledge and develop the skills of the employees in providing efficient services to the country.
