One of the National Irrigation Systems (NIS) of Region 9, the Labangan River Irrigation System (LABRIS) is currently undergoing major repair and improvements adaptive to climate change.

The improvements include extending of dam crest in Labangan dam, and concreting of 1,200 meter lining along LABRIS Main Canal. These improvements will ensure sufficient flow of water into the irrigation canals, thereby making water delivery to LABRIS service area more efficient.

NIA guarantees that through these developments, its irrigation facilities will be resilient and adaptive to the current and future effects of climate change.

On September 28, 2021 - An inauguration and turn-over ceremony of federation building was formally handed-over to Nagkahiusang Mag-uuma sa Patubig ng Zamboanga del Norte. The activity was spearheaded by Engr. Wilson N. Cabrales, the Acting Manager of NIA-Zamboanga del Norte Regional Sub-Office and was graced with the presence of Gen. Angelo H. Sunglao (Ret)-Executive Assistant IV representative from the Provincial Office of Zamboanga del Norte, leaders from different irrigator’s association in this province, and was witnessed by NIA-Zamboanga del Norte Regional Sub-office employees.

Through the endless effort of the officers of Nagkahiusang Mag-uuma sa Patubig ng Zamboanga del Norte headed by President Engr. Edgardo I. Cohena and the unwavering support from Governor Roberto Y. Uy to our local farmers, the federation building was successfully completed. The undying support from the National and Provincial Government uplifted the spirit and confidence of our Farmer Leaders to continually provide basic services to the community.

Zamboanga Sibugay – Two (2) irrigation systems of NIA Region 9 namely the Sibuguey Valley Irrigation System (SVIS) Lower 1 Extension and SVIS Lower 2 Extension were inaugurated in a joint ceremony held on July 28, 2021.

At present, SVIS Lower 1 Extension and SVIS Lower 2 Extension are nearly completed with 97% and 96.17% accomplishment respectively. Both irrigation systems are multi-year projects and considered as two (2) of the biggest irrigation projects of NIA Region 9 so far.

The construction of SVIS Lower 1 Extension started in CY 2012 with total allocation of 981 million from CY 2012-2021. While, SVIS Lower 2 Extension started in CY 2014 with a total allocation of 618 million from CY 2014-2019.

Pagadian City, ZDS (NIA-9) July 26 – The National Irrigation Administration Region 9 (NIA-9) turned-over four (4) of its completed projects to its farmer beneficiaries during a Mass Turn-over Ceremony held on July 24, 2021 at JL Hotel, Pagadian City.

The four (4) irrigation projects namely Tukuran Communal Irrigation System (CIS), Balanagan Small Irrigation System (SIS), Dongos SIS, and Libayoy SIS collectively cost Php 43.7 million, are all under the supervision of Zamboanga del Sur Irrigation Management Office (ZDS IMO) headed by Acting Manager Benedicto Isagani Pulis Jr.

The operation and maintenance of these projects were formally turned-over to Tukuran IA, Inc. Balanagan-Dimataling IA, Inc., Libayoy-Lacarayan IA, Inc., and Dongos-East Magpulao IA, Inc.

The ceremony was attended by Municipal Mayor Eleazer Y. Asoy of Dinas, Municipal Mayor Eleazar C. Carcallas of Tigbao, Mr. Albine Dave Jubilado, Admin and Finance Manager of NIA-9 Regional Office, the management and personnel of ZDS IMO, IA Presidents and Board of Trustees.

July 21, 2021 - A total of P5 Million worth of completed canalization and canal structures were finally turned over by the National Irrigation Administration Region IX- Zamboanga del Norte Regional Sub-Office to the recipients of Dipolog-Polanco Irrigators' Associations (IA).

This turn-over ceremony was done in a simple celebration following the safety protocols in the area. The inauguration was graced by Acting Manager Engr. Wilson N. Cabrales and was attended by the IA officials headed by its IA President Engr. Edgardo I. Cohena, Supervising IDO- Mr. Dionisio C. Solutorio together with the NIA employees.

This completed project includes canalization and construction of canal structures designed to restore and generate a total area of 20 hectares out of the total firmed-up service area (FUSA) of 978 hectares with 1, 182 farmer beneficiaries.

The successful activity were part of the series of project turn-overs scheduled for this week amidst of this pandemic with the observance of safety guidelines against Covid-19.
