NIA-R9 pays courtesy visit to Tawi-Tawi Provincial Governor

The National Irrigation Administration Region 9 headed by Acting Regional Manager Salome N. Layasan together with her Division Manager for Engineering and Operations, Maritez I. Soria; ZAMBASULTA Regional Sub-office Manager Robert Berni L. Rada II,' and other key officers of NIA-9 paid a courtesy call to the Governor of Tawi-Tawi Province – Hon. Yshmael I. Sali at Bongao, Tawi-Tawi on June 15, 2022.

NIA-9 was welcomed by the Provincial Administrator of Tawi-Tawi, Mr. Mobin N. Gampal, on behalf of the Provincial Governor who was on another engagement.

During the meeting, ZAMBASULTA Manager Rada presented a brief information pertaining to NIA’s irrigation projects in the province.

Administrator Gampal delivered the message of the Governor and expressed his enthusiasm to national projects given to them such as NIA’s. He also explained the traditional practices and perceptions of the people of Tawi-Tawi that gave the agency a better insight in implementing its projects more effectively.

Another Win for Region IX

June 22, 2022, in NIA Central Office -The Kauswagan San Vicente Farmers Irrigators' Association, Inc. (KASAVIFIA, Inc) gladly received its Plaque of Recognition and Fifty thousand pesos (50,000.00) cash prize for bagging the 2nd place during the Search for CY 2021 Most Outstanding CARP-IC Irrigators' Association.

The award was received by the KASAVIFIA, Inc. Officers, IA President Virgilio G. Bacinillo Jr., IA Secretary Evelyn T. Abrasaldo, and IA Bookkeeper Joseph L. Ruben, together with NIA Region IX select personnel headed by Acting Regional Manager Engr. Salome N. Layasan, Zamboanga del Sur IMO Manager Engr. Benedicto Isagani O. Pulis Jr., Region IX CARP-IC Monitor Julita A. Villaganas, Supervising IDO Ann N. Maligro, and IDO Harold T. Novabos.

NIA-R9 Turnover Doña Josefina Communal Irrigation Project to Irrigators' Association

Doña Josefina CIP is a CARP - IC Project of CY 2021 with a total allocation of Php 5,150,000.00 for the Construction of Conventional Intake, Canal Lining, Canal Structures and other appurtenances. This irrigation project caters an irrigable area of 30 hectares with 20 farmers beneficiaries.

The Doña Josefina Irrigators Association Inc. thru IA President Mr. Abing, gave its sincere gratitude to the agency for the realization of irrigation project in the area.

The activity was participated by NIA Region IX Acting Regional Manager, Engr. Salome N. Layasan together with ZDSIMO Engineering Section Chief Engr. Rey M. Pinatacan, NIA R9 Management Specialists, DAR Personnels, Representatives from the Office of Tabina Municipal Mayor, Project-In-Charge and Institutional Development Officers.

NIA-R9 renders courtesy visit to WESTMINCOM

NIA-R9 Acting Regional Manager Salome N. Layasan together with ZAMBASULTA Regional Office Acting Manager Robert Berni L. Rada II and other key personnel of NIA-9, rendered a courtesy visit on Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) Commander Lieutenant General Alfredo Rosario Jr. on June 14, 2022 at Western Mindanao Command, Zamboanga City.

On behalf of Lt. Gen. Rosario who was out of town during the visit, the team of NIA-9 was received by the Chief of the Unified Staff, Col. Elmer B. Suderio, and other senior officers of the Command. RM Layasan expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the warmest welcome given to them during the visit.

They have discussed about the present and proposed irrigation projects within Westmincom area, and the impact of the AFP before, during, and after the implementation of the Agency's projects. And ultimately, how NIA and AFP's partnership alleviate the lives of the local farmers in Western Mindanao.

NIA-R9 proposes for Olutanga Island NIP to serve farmers in Zamboanga Sibugay

In line with the agency’s commitment to provide efficient, effective, and sustainable irrigation services, the National Irrigation Administration, Zamboanga Sibugay Irrigation Management Office (ZSIMO) of Region 9 proposes for the Olutanga Island National Irrigation Project (NIP) Feasibility Study.

Hence, a Joint Coordination Meeting between the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Local Government Unit (LGU), and Department of Agriculture (DA) for the Proposed Olutanga Island NIP Pre-Feasibility Study was conducted on June 13, 2022 at the Talusan Training Center, Poblacion, Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The proposed Olutanga NIP has a total potential area of 2,790 hectares. 1,690 hectares of which are rice land, while 1,100 hectares are High Value Crops and other Diversified Products. The Olutanga Island NIP will cover three (3) municipalities namely Mabuhay, Talusan, and Olutanga, Zamboanga Sibugay, covering 51 barangays, with a potential 2,035 farmer beneficiaries.
