NIA Region 9 Joins Annual Tree Planting Event to Support National Greening Program

The NIA Zamboanga Peninsula participated in the Annual Tree Planting event organized by the National Irrigation Administration on July 5, 2024. With the theme "Sibol para sa Patubig ni BayaNIAn 2024", the initiative aimed to support the National Greening Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), focusing on the conservation and rehabilitation of watersheds.

More than 300 Narra tree seedlings were planted in the Labangan watershed in Brgy. Binayan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur. The event was led by Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza, along with Division Managers Engr. Antonio B. Gujeling and Ms. Norma C. Cabrales. The activity was participated by NIA-9 Regional Office staff, representatives from the Barangay Local Government Unit, the Philippine National Police, and the Irrigators Association (IAs) under the Labangan River Irrigation System (LABRIS).

This annual tree planting initiative is a part of the NIA Anniversary celebration, highlighting the crucial role of watersheds in providing irrigation. By championing these efforts, NIA showcases its dedication to environmental sustainability and the preservation of natural resources for enhanced agricultural productivity.
