NIA Zambo. Sur strengthens Farmer Collaboration through TSAG Meeting

MAHAYAG, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR - Demonstrating its continued commitment to empowering farming communities, the NIA - Zamboanga del Sur Irrigation Management Office (ZDSIMO) conducted a Turn- out Service Area Group (TSAG) Meeting on May 28, 2025, in Boniao, Mahayag. Spearheaded by Supervising IDO Ms. Ann N. Maligro and her team, the meeting brought together leaders and members of SBKP EXPD. ARC Irrigators Association (IA) Inc. to discuss proactive solutions for enhancing irrigation systems and service delivery.

The meeting served as a venue for positive collaboration, with IA members sharing insights and suggestions on improving irrigation operations. Among the key concerns raised were creek desilting, upgrading drainage canals to reduce flooding, and addressing flash flood-related issues. Zone 5B also proposed the construction of a 300-meter canal lining, installation of a steel headgate, and riprap works to strengthen dam infrastructure.

The session concluded on a high note with a shared commitment to conduct site inspections and validations. IA members expressed appreciation for NIA's swift action and open communication, reaffirming a strong partnership in ensuring efficient irrigation services and sustainable agricultural productivity.

NIA Zambo. Sur empowers IA Officers through Financial Management Training

The NIA Zamboanga del Sur Irrigation Management Office (ZDSIMO) conducted a two-day Financial and Management Seminar on May 21-22, 2025, at NGS Suite, Pagadian City. Spearheaded by Supervising Institutional Development Officer Ms. Ann N. Maligro, the seminar aimed to enhance the financial management capabilities of Irrigators' Association (IA) officers. A total of 28 IA members actively participated, learning essential skills such as proper maintenance of Cash Books, and accurate recording of receipts and disbursements.

The training sought to instill accountability and transparency among IA leaders by equipping them with practical tools for managing their organizations' funds. These skills are vital in ensuring that financial decisions are sound, funds are properly utilized, and that IAs are positioned to make informed choices to improve their services to farmer-members.

Participating lAs included Tulawas IA, Lourdes Pagadian City IA, Carpoc-Lubosan IA, Linoguayan IA, and Dongos East Migpulao IA. ZDSIMO reaffirmed its commitment to support its lAs not only through infrastructure development but also through capacity-building programs that strengthen the leadership and sustainability of local farming communities.

NIA conducts Auto Level Survey Training to Boost Field Accuracy and Project Efficiency

IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY - The NIA Zamboanga Sibugay Irrigation Management Office (ZSIMO), under the leadership of Engr. Maria Gertrudes P. Gania, is currently conducting a focused Auto Level Survey Training for its technical personnel. The activity aims to refresh and enhance the field skills of Project-in-Charge engineers, Planning and Design staff, and survey teams in using auto level instrument, which are critical for ensuring precision in irrigation infrastructure planning.

Led by in-house experts Geodetic Engineer Angelica Huelar and Survey Team Head Mario Niño L. Chatto, the training includes practical field exercises designed to sharpen the participants' accuracy in elevation reading and site assessment. Strengthening technical competencies like these helps minimize costly construction errors and ensures the smooth and timely execution of irrigation projects across the province.

This initiative is part of ZSIMO's continuing commitment to build technical capacity, promote operational excellence, and contribute to sustainable rural development under the #BagongPilipinas vision.

NIA, DSWD, and DA conclude Final Batch of Training on Nutrition and Feed Management for Nipaan Zero Hunger SLP Association

PIÑAN, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE — In a continuing effort to alleviate poverty and promote food security, the NIA Zamboanga del Norte Sub-Office (ZDNRSO), in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Agriculture (DA), successfully conducted the last batch of the Training on Nutrition and Feed Management for the members of Nipaan Zero Hunger Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Association on May 21, 2025 in Barangay Bauyong, Piñan.

This initiative forms part of NIA's Convergence Program, which aims to integrate government efforts to uplift marginalized communities, particularly those involved in irrigation sector. The program combines the technical expertise of NIA, the livelihood assistance framework of DSWD, and the production and nutrition knowledge of the DA, creating a holistic support system for farmer-beneficiaries.

The training was designed to enhance the participants' knowledge and skills in proper feed formulation, livestock nutrition, and sustainable feed management practices, particularly in support of their recently launched Chicken Egg Production Project under the DSWD-SLP.
