Celebrating 70th Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur the NIA Way

LABANGAN, ZAMBO. SUR - The Zamboanga del Sur Irrigation Management Office (ZDS IMO) commemorates the 70th Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur by conducting a “Tree Planting Activity” on September 15, 2022.

A total of 150 giant Bamboo seedlings were planted along the riverbanks of San Isidro Supplementary Irrigators Association (IA) located in Barangay San Isidro, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

NIA would like to express its gratitude to Provincial Governor Victor J. Yu ( Victory Zamboanga del Sur ) thru Maam Lindey L. Herrera, Officer In-Charge of Department of Agriculture (DA) ZDS Provincial Office (Department of Agriculture ZAMPEN) for donating the giant bamboo seedlings that would certainly protect the San Isidro watershed in the future.

The activity was spearheaded by ZDS IMO Manager Benedicto Isagani O. Pulis, Jr., Ann Novabos Maligro – Supervising IDO of Communal Irrigation Systems (CIS) including Salug and Dipolo River Irrigation System (SARIS & DIPRIS) , Doroteo Tres Reyes – Supervising IDO for Labangan River Irrigation System (LABRIS) and the different Irrigators Development Officers (IDOs).

The activity was participated by the Irrigators Associations from Labangan RIS and Communal Irrigation System with the full support of Barangay Captain Francisco R. Inocensio and IA President Jose H. Abad.

 

Field Validation and Inspection on Gaulan IP

DIPLAHAN, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY - The NIA - Internal Audit Services (IAS) represented by the Senior Internal Control Officers, Ms. Wenonah J. Dela Vega and Ms. Janice T. Luyun conducted a Field Validation and Inspection on the previous audit findings and recommendations particularly in Gaulan Irrigation Project (IP) located in Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

NIA - IX Regional Manager Salome Naragas Layasan personally joined the validators during the inspection. They were accompanied by the technical staff from Zamboanga Sibugay Irrigation Management Office (IMO) namely Engr. Maria Gertrudes P. Gania (Ma Gertrudes Pagute), Engr. Marie Therese T. Tingub (Tingub Therese), and the Project-in-Charge of Gaulan IP, Engr. Emiliano Lagan II (Choy Lagan) .

Bingon IA distributes food packs to Indigenous Peoples in Zamboanga Sibugay

SIAY, ZAMBO. SIBUGAY - The Bingon Farmers Irrigators Association (FIA) distributed food packs composed of grocery items to 20 members of the Indigenous Peoples in Purok 8, Balagon Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The community service was initiated by the NIA - IA in partnership with the Philippine Army (PA) and Philippine National Police (PNP). NIA is grateful for the active leadership of President Dionisio Ladra of Bingon FIA for extending their support to the less fortunate sector of the community.

31 IAs Convene for a Review & Planning Workshop in Zamboanga Sibugay

DIPLAHAN, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY - Thirty One (31) Irrigators Associations (IAs) under the National Irrigation System (NIS) of Zamboanga Sibugay convened for a Review and Planning Workshop spearheaded by NIA Region IX - Zamboanga Sibugay Irrigation Management Office (IMO) on September 8, 2022 at D'Haven Suites, Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The activity aimed to present the accomplishments of every IA so as to share its best practices to its fellow irrigators, and to come up strategies in order to implement its remaining targets for the year. More importantly, it served as an avenue to discuss solutions on the issues and concerns of the IAs.

"The activity is done for NIA to hear and know first-hand the problems encountered by our IAs. We are partners and we cannot do it without you" said Ms. Rosie Lyn Bayawa, Head of Institutional Development Section of NIA Region IX as she addressed her message for the farmers.

Meanwhile, the IA Federation President accentuated that NIA and the IAs work in synergy for the betterment of the agriculture of the country. "Work hand-in-hand gyud ang NIA ug ang IA sa mga projects kay labi na full support kaayo sa agriculture atong Presidente", Ms. Thelma Braganza, IA Federation President said.

The one-day activity successfully ended with all their concerns heard and addressed. The IAs were filled with optimism that their issues / problems be resolved and be given fast solutions for the improvement of their associations.
