Continuing Inter-agency Convergence for the Benefit of the Farmers

As the Agency continues its efforts in providing effective government services to the farmers, NIA Region 9 remains dedicated in converging with various government line agencies and bureaus to optimize its resources for the benefit of the local farmers.

Thus, NIA-9 holds its 4th National Irrigation Administration – National Government Agencies (NIA-NGA) Convergence at NIA Function Hall, Balintawak, Pagadian City. Through this meeting, NIA with the help of its partner agencies will be able to provide timely support services and intensify sustainable agricultural revenue. With the established unity among agencies, promoting progress for the farmers becomes more efficient.  

Present during the meeting are the Convergence Focal Persons of Department of Agriculture (DA), DA-PhilRice, DA-ATI, DA-BFAR, DA-PhilMech, DENR, DENR-EMG, DENR-MGB, DTI, CDA, and DOST.

NIA ZAMBASULTA Meets with Zamboanga City 1st District Representative

NIA Region 9 - Zamboanga-Basilan-Sulu-Tawitawi Regional Sub-Office (ZAMBASULTA RSO) headed by Acting Manager Rex L. Armentia paid a courtesy visit to Zamboanga City 1st District Representative, Honorable Congressman Khymer Adan T. Olaso on September 22, 2023.

During the meeting, the NIA officials presented the list of approved CY 2023 projects - the Talisayan Communal Irrigation System (CIS) and the Ayala CIS that are soon to be implemented in the 1st District. Also discussed are the proposed irrigation projects  under the FY 2024 National Expenditure Program (NEP) that are still to be reviewed further by the Congressman.

Congressman Olaso expressed his support to the agency as he himself actively promotes the welfare of the farmers under his jurisdiction. Also present during the meeting is the Institutional Development Unit Head of ZAMBASULTA RSO, Ms. Leni S. Enriquez and personnel from the Planning & Design Engineering Sections - Jhassa Anne S. Cambalon and Pablito F. Bayawa.

RCEF – Technology Farm Walk (PalaySikatan)

Rapt with swear and enthusiasm, farmers together with PhilRice’s partnering agencies and barangay officials took part in the Technology Farm Walk (PalaySikatan) at a model farm located in Barangay Balugo, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur on September 20, 2023.

RCEF-Seed Program seeks to provide not just a variety of seeds but also machineries beneficial to the inclusive growth of rice-producing farmers. They maintain the genetic purity, varietal identity and quality standard of superior crop varieties to produce good quality seeds. The seeds provided have undergone several tests to ensure its productiveness. Among the inbred varieties introduced are the RC 506, RC 402, RC 442, AND RC 216.

Moreover, the use of mechanical transplanters and drone fertilizer sprayers were introduced by the Agricultural Training Institute as part of the technological advancement in the agricultural sector.

PalaySikatan Farm Walk

The Palaysikatan Farm Walk is part of the Technology Demonstration under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund – Seed Program (RCEF-Seed), which aims to showcase the recommended inbred rice varieties in various demo-farms in Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay.

NIA, as guest agency joins the Palaysikatan Farm Walk together with the farmers and other stakeholders at Barangay Lower Tiparak, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur on September 19, 2023. The purpose of the activity is for the farmers to be educated on the quality rice crops to be planted and to share with them the appropriate methods and technologies to achieve high yield.

Five (5) rice varieties were planted at the Lower Tiparak demo -farm including RC 160, RC 402, RC 442, RC 222, and RC 216. These inbred varieties are most preferred by Philrice due to its advantage to which it can adapt to adverse climactic conditions in both dry and wet season resulting to increased production.

Another series of FISA & RSBSA Caravan and IA Tabo-an conducted in Zamboanga del Norte

Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Department of Agriculture (DA), and Irrigators Associations (IAs) continue the advocacy in disseminating the objectives and importance of RA 10969 "An Act Providing Free Irrigation Services". On September 15, 2023, the Caravan on Free Irrigation Service Act (FISA) & Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA) Caravan and IA Tabo-an was successfully conducted at Brgy. Disakan Covered Court, Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte.

The FISA Caravan aims to disseminate information to the farmers about FISA and to assist them in processing their Certificate of Exemption on the Payment of Irrigation Service Fee (ISF), while the RSBA Caravan intends to ensure the registration of farmer beneficiaries in the DA’s centralized database for them to be prioritized in the benefit and assistance program of the national government.
