Zamboanga Sibugay IA Adopts Crop Diversification

The Labrador-Timualag-Katurog Irrigators Association of Zamboanga Sibugay displays their diversified crops for Dry Season 2021 which include 0.25 hectares of Eggplant, 0.125 hectares of Pechay, and 0.50 hectares of Spring Onions.

The IA has adopted crop diversification as a strategy to promote and hasten agricultural developments. This strategy helps them attain their goal of increasing productivity and farm income notwithstanding the benefit of environmental conservation.

 

Soon to be Operational Lower Sibuguey II RIS Extention

Lower Sibuguey II River Irrigation System (RIS) Extension is already 61.84% accomplished as of April 20, 2021. The construction of the project comprise of fabrication, supply, delivery and installation of barrage gates which is projected to be completed by July 2021.

Lower Sibuguey II RIS Extension is under the direct the supervision of Zamboanga Sibugay Irrigation Management Office headed by Acting Manager Girlie Detalla. It has a total project cost of 31.8 million under Line Projects CY 2017 Fund Source. It is being undertaken by Wassecon Corporation, with Engr. Elvin Belleza as the Project In Charge.

On April 19, 2021, Regional Manager Manuel Rañeses personally inspected the project and met with the contractor in order to provide necessary support so as to fast tract the completion of the said project.

The management ensured that this project be operational the soonest possible time. The construction of this dam will surely irrigate more farmlands in Zamboanga Sibugay, thus producing more rice for the people and improving the life of our farmers.

Time to Reap What Has Been Sown

Farmers of Balago Irrigators' Association eagerly reaped what has been planted last January 2021. This April, a total of three hundred ten (310) 70-kg sacks of 222 rice variety was harvested from the 3.25-hectare farmland of an IA member located in Barangay Balogo, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur.

Because of the sufficient supply of irrigation water delivered to their farms, the yield for this Dry Cropping Season of our farmers has significantly improved, thus producing more rice for the people of Zamboanga del Sur.

 

Agribusiness Seminar conducted to our Farmer Clienteles

The Labangan River Irrigation System (LABRIS) conducted an IA Agri-Business Seminar on the Proper Care and Management for High Value Crops last April 12, 2021 held at Lantian Covered Court, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur. Around thirty (30) farmers from the different Irrigators Association of LABRIS attended the one (1) day seminar.

This was made possible through the collaborative effort of NIA and the Department of Agriculture IX. Resource speakers were experts from the Department of Agriculture namely Mr. Ryan John M. Corbo (Agricultural Technician 1) and Mr. Edellarie T. Jouela (Marketing Specialist).

The activity ended with the awarding of the 8 in 1 Pack Assorted Vegetable Seeds.
