NIA R9 turns over P18-million Baking SIP to Baking IA, Inc.

 

Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur – National Irrigation Administration Region 9 turned over Baking Small Irrigation Project (Baking SIP) to Baking Irrigators’ Association, Inc on February 18, 2021.

The project is located in Barangay Baking, Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur. The construction was supervised by Zamboanga del Sur Irrigation Management Office (ZDS IMO) headed by Acting Manager Maritez I. Soria, and was successfully completed in accordance with the approved plans and specification.

Present during the turnover ceremony were ZDS IMO Institutional Section Head, Ms. Ann Maligro together with her Institutional Development Officers; Engr. Ruel Huwisca, Municipal Agricultural Officer; and Barangay Chairman, also IA President Hon. Rolando A. Langas, among others.

The completion of this 18-million Baking SIP fulfills the hope of 45 farmer-beneficiaries to have dependable irrigation water supply. The project can now irrigate 70 hectares of farmland in the municipality of Lakewood.

 

Baloboan Sector Organized

Dumalinao, ZDS – The Institutional Development Unit of Zamboanga del Sur IMO headed by Ms. Ann Maligro successfully organized Baloboan Sector on January 23, 2021. This sector will serve as an extension of Balocan IA, Inc and will consequently take-over the future irrigation system in Brgy Baloboan, Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur.

This proposed project named Canunan-Balongating CIS Extension has a total project cost of Php 10M under Triple – E IS (Expansion and Extension of Existing Irrigation System) CY 2021 fund source. Through this project, an additional 40 hectares of newly generated area will supplement the existing 317-hectare Canunan-Balongating CIS, therefore benefitting more farmer beneficiaries in the area.

The meeting was attended by officers and Board of Trustees (BOTs) of BaloCan IA, Inc, Punong Barangay Hon. Jonie Leyson together with his councilor, the Municipal Agriculturist, land owners, and future water users. It was a successful organizational meeting as the officers and members of the IA, as well as future end-users of the system vouch to give their full support for the implementation of the project, and even extended their heartfelt gratitude to NIA for the continuous service despite the hurdles brought about by the pandemic.

 

NIA-9 conducts GFPS and Gender Mainstreaming Orientation

20 participants composed of reconstituted GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) Committee and select employees of NIA-9 Regional Office attended the GFPS and Gender Mainstreaming Orientation conducted last December 15, 2020 at NIA Region 9 Function Hall, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur. The seminar was aimed at introducing Gender Mainstreaming to the reconstituted GFPS.

Psychologist Maria Teresa A. Empleo, RPm, RPsy, who served as the Resource Speaker during the seminar was a former employee of NIA-9 -Regional Office and the previous Gender and Development (GAD) TWG Chairperson of the Region. During the seminar, the GFPS committee were oriented of their roles and functions to lead in mainstreaming gender perspective in the agency's policies, plans, and programs.

In the process, the GFPS Committee shall ensure the assessment of the GAD responsive structures, policies, and programs of the agency base.

 

NIA R9 turns over P13-million Lapayan Baja CIS to Silalela IA, Inc.

Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte - National Irrigation Administration Region 9 turned over Lapayan Baja Communal Irrigation System (Lapayan Baja CIS) to Silalela Irrigators Association Inc. on December 14, 2020 at Brgy Silawe, Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Lapayan Baja CIS was supervised by Zamboanga del Norte Regional Sub-Office (ZDNRSO) headed by Acting Manager Wilson N. Cabrales. It has a service area of 187 hectares and can benefit 361 farmer-beneficiaries. The diversion dam covers four barangays - Lapayan Baja, Silawe, Letapan, and Labrador, all within the municipality of Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte. The project was successfully completed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications, with a total project cost of P13.1-million under Repair CIS CY 2020 fund.

Among the Guests of Honors present during the ceremony were NIA R9 Regional Manager Manuel L. Rañeses; Hon. Alfredo S. Bait-it, Acting Municipal Mayor; Hon. Limmuel P. Escuadro, Brgy. Captain of Lapayan Bajo; Mr. Edgar M. Agayan, Municipal Agriculturist and; IA President Martin Pulmaran together with other Silalela IA, Inc. officials and members.
