DA-F2C2 Program conducts Writeshop on the Formulation of Cluster Development for IAs in ZDS

The Department of Agriculture (DA) - Farm and Fisheries Clustering and Consolidation (F2C2) Program in collaboration with the NIA Region 9 conducts a two-day Writeshop on the Formulation of Cluster Development Plan (CPD) in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur on Sept. 4-5, 2023.

DA-F2C2 team headed by regional focal person – Mr. Hannibal P. Bayo-ang facilitated the said training with 107 participants coming from seven (7) clustered Irrigators Associations (IAs) in Zamboanga del Sur. The team discussed F2C2 as DA’s strategy and explained the process in the crafting of cluster development plan.

During the workshop, the IA’s baseline data were gathered, Strengths-Weakness-Opportunities-Challenges (SWOC) were analyzed which serve as bases for the formulation of the clusters’ five-year development plan.

IRRIGATORS ASSOCIATION OF LABANGAN TALKED WITH NIA

A total of more than 50 representatives in the first phase: group 1A consisting of 16 irrigators association in the Labangan Area met with the officials of Region 9 of the National Irrigation Administration on Monday, September 4 at the Lower Pulacan Covered Court.

The activity was dubbed "Turn-Out Service Area Group (TSAG) Meeting" for the beneficiaries of NIA in the Labangan River Area.

The purpose of this activity is to listen to the grievances of the farmers who belong to the service of the NIA. This is an initiative of NIA 9 Regional Manager Engr. Nathaniel Jun Plaza to really hear the voice of the beneficiaries regarding their needs for the continuation of the service of that agency.

NIA-9 attends Compliance Audit Exit Conference for CY 2022

The Commission on Audit (COA) resident auditors led by its Audit Team Leader Florencefane J. Arellano, State Auditor IV, conducts an exit conference with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region IX on September 4, 2023 at NIA-9 Conference Room, Balintawak, Pagadian City.

The purpose of the conference is to present the audit observation and recommendations and to discuss the necessary corrective measures that need to be taken to address issues raised particularly in the preparation of Project Procurement Management Plan (PPMP).

The conference serves as an avenue for informative and productive discussion which results to a comprehensive review of audit findings.

Balance Fertilization Strategy: ATI’s aid to address high price of fertilizers

The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) conducted technical briefing on Balance Fertilization Strategy (BFS) to Labangan farmers on September 1, 2023 at NIA-IX Zamboanga del Sur Irrigation Management Officer (ZDS IMO), Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

The BFS is an initiative of DA-ATI to address the issue on rising prices of fertilizers. This strategy involves the optimum use of organic and inorganic fertilizers with the proper grade and amounts to supply the correct ratio of plant nutrients to ensure that the soil will sustain high crop yields.

The said briefing was facilitated by lecturer from ATI namely Mr. Niño Codino with Mr. Mike Tuico from Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA); and participated by federation officers of Labangan River Irrigation System (LABRIS), its Communal Irrigation Systems (CIS), as well as the institutional development unit staff assigned thereat.

Hence, it is vital that farmer leaders must be equipped with knowledge and skills to inform and assist fellow farmers in their areas to use alternative ways in producing crops.

FISA & RSBSA Caravan and Tabo-an in Zamboanga City

Zamboanga City (August 31, 2023) - The National Irrigation Administration ZAMBASULTA Regional Sub-Office holds a whole day caravan on the Free Irrigation Service Act (FISA  / R.A. 10969) and Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA) to District I farmers at Ayala Gymnasium, Barangay Ayala, Zamboanga City.

This activity aims to disseminate information on the Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) of R.A. 10969 facilitated by the Institutional Development Unit headed by the Ms. Leni S. Enriquez, as well as the briefing of the RSBSA facilitated by Department of  Agriculture RSBSA Focal Person Ethel Anne Aying together with the Office of City Agriculturist represented by the Agricultural Field Office in Ayala District - Supervising Agriculturist Merida P. Garcia.
