NIA-DSWD Collaboration Supports Zamboanga del Norte Farmers in Combatting Hunger and Empowering Livelihoods

Earlier today,  April 4, 2024, two (2) significant ceremonies took place in Zamboanga del Norte - the Turnover of Hog Rainsing in Sebaca, Rizal; and the Turnover of Native Chicken and Egg Production in Magsaysay, Sibutad.

A hog raising project amounting to Php 390,000.00 was turned over to Sapa-Linao Zero Hunger SLP Association with 26 farmer beneficiaries, while the Php 285,000.00 worth of Native Chicken & Egg Production project was turned over to NIA-DSWD Zerp hunger SLP Association with 19 beneficiaries.

These projects were made possible through the collaboration between the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). By providing the beneficiaries with the means to engage in livestock production and generate income, this project aims to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the larger goal of achieving zero hunger within the community.

The ceremony was attended by NIA and DSWD officials including Engr. Girlie M. Detalla, the Acting Manager of NIA-Zamboanga del Norte Regional Sub-Office; Engr. Leonila Constantino, the Focal Person of Operations Unit NIA-Region 9; Rizal Municipal Agriculturist Engr. Joel Laure;  Sibutad Municipal Agriculturist Reynaldo Obnimaga; Provincial Coordinator of SLP Dipolog Cluster Ms. Clarita Quirante; and Mr. Alvin Christian Dequito, the NIA ZDN RSO Institutional Unit Head.

Through continued cooperation and dedication of various agencies, the journey towards zero hunger becomes a shared endeavor, enriching the lives of all local farmers.
