Knowledge Enhancement through STEEP

The NIA ZDSIMO recently held a four (4) day activity last November 25-28, 2022 called Social Technological Economic Environmental Program (STEEP)  to raise awareness and provide knowledge/information about farming and irrigation development. Benedicto Isagani O. Pulis, Jr., Division Manager of Zamboanga del Sur of NIA ZDSIMO and Salome N. Layasan, Regional Manager of Region IX together with STEEP Participants paid a courtesy call to Region XI Admin.

The participants went to MIRAL Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) led by Engr. Benjie Neirrie, Davao del Sur Operations and Maintenance Head. MIRAL SRIP was built to serve Bansalan and Matanao in Davao del Sur in order to improve the people's economic status and livelihood.

Also, NIA ZDSIMO paid a courtesy call to the Acting IMO Manager of NIA Davao Oriental, Engr. Gil Valdez and to Mr. Carmelito R. Lapoot, Chief of Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops & Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC) of Department of Agriculture Region X.  Mr. Lapoot discussed the High Valued Crops such as Strawberry and Cherry Tomatoes. He also emphasized the importance of agriculture to our society.

Breaking Gender Stereotypes

November 29, 2022 | The National Irrigation Administration R-IX ZAMBASULTA Regional Sub-Office conducts Gender and Development (GAD) Awareness Program in line with the commitment to pursue in the workplace to promote women empowerment and ensure full participation which is essential in an organization and society as a whole.

This awareness seminar aims to introduce basic concept on GAD to deepen each person's understanding and application in their respective work.

The event is graced by the resource speaker Mr. Wilfredo J. Aporongao, MPA, Zamboanga City's GAD Officer.

NIA-IX conducts Basic Photography & Videography Training

NIA Region IX conducted a three-day skills training on basic Photography and Videography on November 23 – 25, 2022 at Chandler Suites, Pagadian City. The training was facilitated by the Training and Education Team (TET) of the Regional Office, and was participated by 27 staff from the Institutional, Public Relations, and Information, Communication, & Technology (ICT) units.

The training aimed to equip participants with basic skills in using cameras and camera settings, understand and appreciate the elements of good photo and video, and develop better strategies for capturing and editing photos or videos that could enhance the quality of documented information.

The first day of the training was focused on photography techniques and application of Adobe Photoshop, lectured by Resource Speaker Honey Adrian C. Naranjo, Videographer and owner Lighthouse Films. The second day was focused on the videography lecture and basic video editing workshop using Adobe Premiere. And the third day, was the presentation of individual photo and video outputs.

1st EPAHP Tabo-an sa NIA

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region IX strongly supports the implementation of Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) program of the Government that aims to mitigate hunger, ensure nutrition security, and reduce poverty. NIA takes part in EPAHP program by providing technical capability enhancement trainings to the Irrigators’ Associations (IAs) and establishing linkages with Relevant Interested Parties.

NIA Regional Office IX, through the Institutional Development Unit, launches the 1st EPAHP Tabo-an sa NIA, today, November 21, 2022 at the grounds of NIA IX Regional Office, Balintawak, Pagadian City with the theme “Supportahan ang sariling atin, produkto ng magsasaka ating tangkilin”. The tabo-an aims to help  and promote the different IAs market their farm produce and other locally made products in a wider market. In support for the EPAHP program, sixteen (16) agencies around the Regional Government Center in Balintawak, Pagadian City were invited and participated this memorable event

IAs Bayanihan Para sa Bayan

The Officers and BOTs of Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Federation of Irrigators Association (ZPRFIA) Inc. headed by its President Mr. Alonto Marcaban responded to the call for a relief operations to the affected farmers of Typhoon Paeng in Zamboanga City. Thirty (30) families of affected farmers in Brgy. Talisayan received one (1) sack of 25kls. rice, grocery items and one thousand (1000.00) pesos cash. Additional seventy (70) families of evacuees in Brgy. Tetuan and Brgy. Tumaga also received one (1) sack of 25 kls rice and grocery items.

In total, the ZPRFIA, Inc. has accumulated and donated one hundred (100) sacks of 25 kilos rice, groceries and cash assistance amounting to one hundred fifty seven thousand five hundred (157, 500.00) pesos.
